DE UNA PANDEMIA
In this series, he narrates the events of the unforgettable 2020 from a personal perspective.
At first, it seemed like something far away, something that would never arrive. Finally, the pandemic catches up with me, and I suffer isolation, confinement, fear, uncertainty. All hidden, confined, always through My Window.
I suffer disconnection from the environment, from nature, and from humanity itself.
Ventanas de una Pandemia is the synthesis of a succession of events that invaded the streets of Quintana Roo while we residents took shelter inside: a cloud of dust from the African desert that covers the city for more than four days, hiding the sun; the prolonged drought that triggers forest fires and an intense heat wave, until the rains arrive; my longing for the sea and its sunsets; the direct blow of two successive hurricanes.
In Fragment of a Pandemic, I experience the force of nature. I see wildlife fleeing and taking cover while the sky gradually becomes covered in dense clouds and the furious wind shakes trees and palm trees. Sheltered in our den, the noises outside bring to mind images of what's happening, the blows, the inevitable destruction... my vulnerability.
The news penetrated like pinpricks and described a fragile and reclusive world until, as the months passed, learning, resilience, and encouragement began...
Without art materials available, I recycled and used what I had on hand. I worked with oil, acrylic, and amate paper applications to create rich textures in which I made color the protagonist.
